Details: 2 HOURS PER SESSION: A complete fire training system designed to cover all training requirements as part of an ongoing programme, as assessed by the trainer. Fully satisfies all CSCI requirements and the training requirements of the Fire Safety Risk Assessment Guide for Residential Care Premises. Avoids boring, repetitive sessions by looking in depth at a different aspect of fire safety training during each six-monthly session. All students attending Fire Safety courses receive a certificate.


THESE COURSES COMPLY WITH COMMISSION FOR SOCIAL CARE INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS AND NVQs IN CARE.


Fire Safety Training (2 hours)
Training may include:

- Fire Safety - How to Prevent Fires Occurring
- The Importance of Closed Doors
- The Priorities Should a Fire Occur
- Fire Alarms - Emergency Lights - Smoke Detectors
- Calling the Fire Service - Important Things to Say
- What the Fire Service Will Need to Know When They Arrive
- Stages of Evacuation and Assembly Points
- Evacuation Priorities
- Staged, Partial and Full Evacuation
- Helping Those who Can Help Themselves
- Evacuation from Bedrooms - Dealing with Doors and Stairs
- Lifting, Carrying and Dragging
- Safe Lifting Techniques

A practical situation exercise using cosmetic smoke designed to test the response of staff to a real fire situation in their working environment.

Fire Extinguishers Session (2 hours)
Only suitable for staff who have previously received Fire Safety Training.

- Revision of Priorities and Evacuation Sessions
- How Fires Occur and How They Can be Extinguished
- Kitchen Dangers - Flammable Liquid Fires
- Types of Extinguishers and the Extinguisher Colour Code
- How to Use Extinguishers Safely
- Special Situations - Fires Involving Gases and - Electrical Equipment
- Practical Use of Fire Extinguishers
- Duration: 2 hours per session
