Developing Effective Recording (DEVEFFREC) Training Course

This course aims to

  • To gain the confidence and skills to record accurately.
  • To understand that it is essential to distinguish between ‘facts’ and ‘professional judgements’, hypotheses, non - factual information and conclusions based on observation and assessment.
  • For participants to be clearer about the purpose of recording and for whom it is being written, working from the principle of ‘open recording’, which would enable children and young people to see and contribute to their records wherever appropriate and possible.
  • To assist participants when structuring records and address how to focus on key themes and issues.
  • To address key principles around information sharing both within and across agencies.
  • To understand the importance of recording in terms of analysing patterns of behaviour, improvements, problems and needs.
  • To provide a framework and methodology for recording which could be used across agencies and which links with current legislation and policies, particularly linking to the Common Framework for Risk Assessment.
  • To understand that children and young people have a part to play in our record keeping.
